Mark Knopfler 9/11 Song - The Lyrics

Here are the lyrics to the song that's been camped out in my head these past few days. I'm basing the words on a live performance - not the CD version, in case you find an inaccuracy. The song is about the cellphone calls from the World Trade Center:
"If This Is Goodbye"
My famous last words are laying around in tatters,
sounding absurd, whatever I try,
but I love you, and that's all that really matters,
if this is goodbye, if this is goodbye.

The bright shining sun would light up the way before me
you were the one made me feel I could fly
and I love you, whatever is waiting for me,
if this is goodbye, if this is goodbye.

Who knows how long we got
or what we're made out of?
Who knows if there's a plan or not?
There is our love, I know there is our love.

My famous last words,
could never tell the story,
spinning unheard in the dark of the sky,
but I love you and this is our glory,
if this is goodbye, if this is goodbye
if this is goodbye, if this is goodbye.

A Knopfler classic. You work in the Pentagon? Does everyone there believe it was a plane that hit? A lot of people outside don't for sure.

What an incredible song. There are so many truly great love stories out there and so few of them are ever told. Some of the deepest, most enduring and loving relationships will never become oral traditions- legends, recalled and recited by the campfire. Those loves won't be written in a book, acted out on a stage or made into a movie. Perhaps that love, cut short, will linger, be pondered and held in the heart of one left behind. That is the kind of love that could change the world and it is our loss that we will never know.
