BASEBALL IN PORTLAND

The only cartoon of mine the Tribune published was of Portlandia catching a ground ball, so I’m a baseball fan. (By the way, if this ever does happen - if MLB ever comes to the Rose City - that cartoon would make one great marketing poster.) However I can also understand those who would see a baseball stadium as a bunch of government-funded condominium buildings lying on their sides.
It’s also interesting that with March Madness approaching in college hoops, and the Rose Bowl having just dazzled the nation as a huge event, college baseball hasn’t exploded in the same way. So there’s no carryover into the pros. There’s no Reggie Bush or Vince Young. There's no J.J. Redick. There's no Adam Morrison. (Go Gonzaga!)
Major League Baseball also has a huge PR problem right now. Do we want to go into business with George Steinbrenner? That Damon signing was just the latest example of baseball turning magic into heartbreak.
In conclusion, if baseball comes to Portland I’ll be out there in the cheap seats on a warm summer day, wondering what's really in a hot dog, and whether or not the batter’s on anything. If it doesn’t, I’ll continue to get into baseball on TV, the minute the regular season ends and the playoffs start. Can you name the best baseball player in college right now?
