A Chiffons reference. And one of the longest running copyright cases of all time. The key for me was the unintentional plagarism. Yes, George had heard the song and they sound very much alike. That doesn't mean he didn't come up with it himself. Of course, it doesn't have to be intentional to infringe on previous work. I agree with those who think the judge's determination as to how much of a percentage of My Sweet Lord's success was owed to this simple chord progression and melody, was flawed. Billy Preston's version didn't hit big, and then an ex-Beatle had a monster hit with it. The chords and melody didn't help the first version. Oh well. Ironically George had some of the more complicated chords in pop. He loved the diminished third chord, and that rarely shows up in the major/minor world of rock and roll. Just from hearing "Something" I know he was capable of great, complicated song writing, so he could have written My Sweet Lord completely on his own. I hear echos of other material everyday on the radio, so I don't think this incident hurts his reputation one bit.
Wow that was unusual. I juѕt ωrote an very long comment but after ӏ clіckeԁ submit my comment ԁidn't appear. Grrrr... well I'm not writing all thаt oνег again. Regагdlesѕ, ϳust wаnted to say gгeаt blog!

A vote for "Within You, Without You," sophormoric philosophy, perhaps, but wonderful fusion music.

I guess not being able to spell "sophomoric" might count as sophomoric!
