Tribune Headlines Lead to Confusion
How many of you thought the front page headline in the Tribune was about the Tram? I thought so as well. “An Expensive Eyesore” works for me.
Actually the Trib had a section on its Insight page called
“Three Views - It’s time to clear the air over divisive tram.” What followed was the first piece by Mark Kemball – director of community relations at OHSU. His view was entitled “OHSU asset is good for all.”
At least that was the order in the print edition. For those of us looking at the website, it is quite different. Mark’s title, “OHSU asset is good for all” is followed in much smaller font with “THREE VIEWS: It’s time to clear the air over devisive tram”, making it appear part of Mark’s piece.
The headlines were flipped around from the paper to the website. Oh, and the website only had one piece – Mark’s – displayed, making it look to me like he was saying it’s time to clear the air. Who knows? He could have listed 3 possible ways to look at this issue. He wasn’t saying that, and the placing of the headline was confusing. At least for me.
That precipitated an incorrect post, and I’m sorry.
However, if the "Expensive Eyesore" was a subconscious attempt by Trib staffers to say how they really feel about the tram - I got it. As the British like to say, you were spot on.
