Mystery Solved: The Spike

It’s just another case of being an idiot at the wrong time. My wife had predicted that the huge increase in hits yesterday was a glitch, and it was: a glitch in my brain.
Thanks to a tip from the all-wise Jack Bog, I was able to learn how to diagnose a blog spike. All the information was readily available if you knew where to look, but rather than delve into the learning process, I had two separate posts asking the extra hit people why they were visiting. Of course, they never saw these pleas, as they being taken to an individual post, and didn’t even glance at the whole site.
If, Jack hadn’t commented, I would still be holding to my theory that the phenomenon was caused by a passing spaceship.
So what happened? My post about how the White House is coming after the Capitol Hill Blue website was picked up by Fark, a huge site perhaps many of you have visited.
Had I known, I could have been posting about how a new, modest website in Portland had jumped into the fray, defending a fellow Internet brother from the ravages of an out-of-control Bush administration. That would have made great copy, and sometime today, I’ll begin feeling good about it. Right now, I feel like too much of an idiot.

Pick one of the site meters. I believe there's several available.
