Erik Sten: No New City Money For Tram

It looks like Commissioner Sten has realized what Commissioner Sam Adams still doesn’t get: The Tram is not worth ending your political career over. Sam Adams loves to talk about transparency in government, but the problem with the Tram is people did have a good clear look at it. They saw exactly how this project came about and they see where it is heading. For the Tram, transparency isn't a goal; it's a problem. In today’s Oregonian Erik Sten says, “Enough.” Normally that would be simply accepted, but not after the level of conning on this project. It might mean they’ve come up with the funding somehow freeing Erik Sten to get himself some cover on this. But the fact remains, a week ago he told the Mercury he was willing to consider more money for the Tram if OHSU came up with an offer for something else. The article mentioned land for affordable housing.
A week later, Erik has "clarified" his position: No more money from the city for the Tram. Unlike Sam Adams, he realizes this thing isn't worth his political career.
