Old Johnny Rivers Song Captures Blazers Predicament

The love affair between Portland and the Blazers is in trouble. The relationship used to be red hot, but it cooled after Paul Allen came into the picture. Now Paul Allen could be dumping the team, maybe even unloading it on a ownership group made up of thousands of small time investors. I was reminded of that possibility listening to an old Johnny Rivers’ song the other night called “Poor Side of Town”, specifically these lines:
“That rich guy you've been seein'
Must have put you down
So welcome back baby
To the poor side of town

To him you were nothin' but a little plaything
Not much more than an overnight fling
To me you were the greatest thing this boy had ever found…”

(And the new Blazers marketing campaign):
“With you by my side
They can't keep us down
Together we can make it baby
From the poor side of town."
